post is about flashing Samsung Galaxy S SHW M110S Variant with CyanogenMod
9 custom rom.
If you are not familiar with what is happening with this rom I would please you to take a hard look at cyanogenmod.com. This article I written is for an educational purpose. You may face issues with the rom. Lot of configuration issues such as Wi-Fi issues, data activation issues. Yet this is the best solution that you can get for the phone in order to get ICS.

What
you need for this flashing operation?
1. The Odin for flashing the phone to
Recovery Mode (01_CM9_2.tar file)
2. The CyanogenMod ROM (CM9_M110S_Say.zip
file)
3. The Basic Google Apps for the ROM (gapps_ics_404_01042012.zip
file)
Download
the files by the links attached.
Precautions
1. Please charge your phone up to 70%
or more.
2. Understand the phone’s Reboot mode,
Download mode and Recovery Mode.
Download
Mode will be the Home Button + Power Button.
Recovery mode will be the Volume Down Button + Home Button + Power Button.
Recovery mode will be the Volume Down Button + Home Button + Power Button.
Take a big
breath before doing it, Please understand this process may
brick or semi-brick your phone, but still you can unbrick and flash with
the stock rom. Please ask questions if you have any clarifications about the
installations.
How to
do?
1. Connect the phone into PC. Copy the
CyanogenMod ROM (CM9_M110S_Say.zip file) and the Basic Google Apps for the ROM
(gapps_ics_404_01042012.zip file) to your phone.
2. Switch off the phone. Remove the
battery, re-insert and put the phone into Download mode.
3. Run Odin, when you run the software
with the phone connected the Odin will detect a yellow bar with a COM port.
Find the button PDA. Click the PDA and select 01_CM9_2.tar file. It will take a
few seconds to finish. Unplug the USB and put the phone into Recovery mode.
4. In the recovery mode you will see
options like WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET. Press YES and DO it.
5. WIPE CACHE Partition.
6. Go to advanced and WIPE DALVIK CACHE.
So these
steps actually clean your phone off the from the previous ROM / Stock ROM
7. Go back and select INSTALL UPDATE
FROM SD CARD.
8. Select CM9_M110S_Say.zip and click
update. It will take up to a minute to install.
9. After that repeat that with gapps_ics_404_01042012.zip
file.
10. Do it again the 4th 5th
and 6th steps again.
11. Reboot now
12. In the first boot of a new ROM it
will take a few minutes to load. Be PATIENT!
13. Here we go! The CyanogenMod 9 for
SHW M110S where you are!
Issues
I faced,
1. I could not switch on my Wi-Fi
2. I could not switch on data packet
enabler
3. I could not switch on the Bluetooth
4. My camera got a miserable look. Not
correctly focusing or capturing.
But I
really like the UI, my phone become speeder and smoother than the stock rom. I
repeat this is an educational article. Please think twice before doing
anything. Believe me you may brick your phone for nothing.

Thanks for posting a question. Yes indeed I was going through a Korean article about Cynagenmod for our phone! There is one more thing you can try. Please translate the Korean thing to English and do the same procedure with the new rom :)

thanx for the link. i tried with cynogenmod 10, its very nice but two thing didn't work with my phone. One, ring tone is not ringing though my phone is not in silent and another message is not working, my phone gets stuck when i click on message. otherwise it is very nice. do you have any solutions to these problems?

When I tried porting, it was fine but the network (3G) was not working? Any tweaks you applied in order to get that done? How about battery consumption? Mine was draining down like in few hours :( Please add your review so accordingly we can edit the source code :)
@Nareshwar: you mean to say video call by saying 3G network? well in that case i haven't tried it. but the phone call network is working fine. actually i was trying all the roms for M110S and none completely satisfied me but at last i found the link in your comment and i gave it a try. first i copied the ROM to my internal SD card and i installed recovery.tar using odin in download mode. then i went in recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe delvik cache and install zip from sdcard and reboot. its done!!! after that i again installed gaaps from recovery mode. ya battery drains a bit faster. even in stand by mode for about 6 hours i noticed that 10% battery got drained. however that is ok for me. the one thing that is annoying me is that ringtone is not working. message application was also not working but i installed go sms and now its doing great.
it can recieved an message ?

@asd: wifi turns on with widget and i have not used any antivirus. i encountered one more problem, when i try to open play store it says unfortunately play store has stopped. now i am thinking to flash the same rom once again.
why odin cant detect my shw-m110s ?

@asd: may be you have not installed the required drivers. install kies first and try again. first open your phone in download mode by pressing home and power button together then connect the phone to pc with data cable and open odin. i am not sure it will work in windows 8 or not but i am sure it will work in XP or windows 7. good luck.

rom problems:
cant use video camera, but u can use camera to take a picture..can't play videos (you can use mx player).no 3g..
that is the problem that im facing as of now..

@john dinoy: is ringtone ringing??? and is there any problem with google sync or play store? because with the rom downloaded from the previous comment above my ringtone did not ring and play store says "google play store has stopped working". and how about the battery consumption and time to get full charged???
@kumar there's no problem gplay works fine, ringtone ringing properly..
The problems only: video camera, 3g..the rest works fine..

After you install kies shutdown your phone and press power button+home when the yellow trial appears run odin connect your phone to pc using usb cable..after that odin not detect yet but your pc can detect and there's a prompt appear on your pc to install..just click install wait until its done..

@john dinoy: i tried the rom you said but the ringtone is not ringing. vibration is working but no ringtone. music is also playing, in the setting when i choose a ringtone, it is playing but when a call comes it just vibrate no ringtone. can you give me some solution?

You installed CM10 to M110S? Awesome! Since the phone is not an international model, CM ditches you at some point. Somewhere! I think we have to work on ourselves to get that working. Can we join hands?
Hi naresh provision rev 4(4.1.2) not perfect..the only problems: hardware decoder but you can use mx player..can't use video camera but you can use camera to take a pictures.. wifi, bluetooth, gps, etc are working but a bit slow..I used pimp my rom to tweak it..
Hi Mihai you can used MX player to watch videos..to enchance the performance you can used pimp my rom and tweak it or supercharger..
didn't anyone faced with ringtone problem??
@kumar my ringtone is working when I play..but f someone calling my phones ringing sometimes not..but it doesn't matter I just put it into vibrate mode..hehehe
hello buddies , i flashed my phone to GFAN_M110S_FTE9K_WF07_ODEX_SP6_FOR_XDA ROM ,
which is great in look like ICS .
But its 2.3.6 and it comes with ROOTED .
So better try this and adjust with it , since no issues in this ROM .
I SAY NO ISSUES BUDDIES .
IT runs faster and looks cool .
u can search and download it and flash it .
if ur phone gets bricked also i will help u out guys .

ive already try that one..have you tried gfan sp8 rom?.. you can also put ics theme with 14 toggles on that rom..

@asd Are you using windows 8? The same issue I faced with Windows 8! Windows 7 or XP, that works fine, I guess the issue with the driver incompatibility!
@asd did you download samsung kies? if you already downloaded kies all the drivers of your phone will automatically installed..

@asd after you install samsung kies dont run it ok..kill samsung kies or exit it..turn off your phone into download mode connect it to your pc..

@kumar yeah!, you can use that's apps..jst make sure that you have busybox install, and installed it as normal..then install init.d from pimp my rom tools then reboot..just dont touch the kernel when using that apps and make sure you have a baCKup just incase..
@praveen i suggest gfan sp8 from xda with tegrak kernel or icarus.. te17 has problem..

its awesome .
it has some problems :
1)Ringtone didnt worked .
2)Not getting the root access .
3)video recording not working.
4)Navigation Bar not activating.
But ROM awesome , very fast and look is good,
i most liked is we can make conference calls in the phone.apk , it is not possible in our GFAN SP8 OR ANY OTHER.
I copied that that rom's phone.apk to our gfan sp8 but getting some parsing error .
Please yaar try solving those above mentioned errors , so that everyone can use the 4.1.2 in our m110s .
@praveen: i also used the same rom once but faced the same problem faced by you so i changed to GFAN SP8. i also liked that rom very much and will switch to that rom if those problems are solved. by the way is it possible to solve those problems from our side?
i think it is possible to resolve all issues .
but no one is taking interest to do .

@praveen About PROVISION Official 4-4(jellybean) you can fix rooting by installing superuser after that install romtool box lite you can download it from gplay so that you can remove the stock apps like apollo and videomaker then reboot so that the rom memory has atlest 3-4mb free..now open gplay update the supersu after that open the supersu it will prompt you to update the binary just click ok then it prompt you again how you would like to install just click cwm/twrp your phone will automatically reboot, if your phone not reboot just reboot manually..rooting will be fix..you can now remove superuser once already fix the supersu..:)
@john: sounds good. but what about the ringtone?? can't we make it ring when call comes? isn't there any application which does this? i searched but i could not find any. if you know any, it would be helpful for us.
@kumar about ringtone when call comes will works but sometimes ringing sometimes not but mostly not..ill fix to fix but nothings happen..about video recording i cannot find anyways how to fix it..but if you want to play videos you download MX player..if you want to use 3g just dial *#*#4636#*#* set it to wcdma only then reboot 3g will work.. :-)

guys am from africa and iv been using the m110s for over 6months nw n i play with roms a lot but i think the provsion 4-4 is the best rom this phone has ever gotten i lov it to the max bt i wouuld like it if those bugs were fixed i would realy be glad. please do something about the provision rom because i know you are our only saviour now and can anyone please help me on how to enable the (apn) cos its the only way i can use this phone and its seam not to be able to save after creating a knew one thanks in advance i would appreciate it if you could help me with that an good work with your blog thanks again

simply download CWR for M110S and then copy CM9_M110S_Say.zip file) and (gapps_ics_404_01042012.zip files onto ur sdcard and enter into recovery mode (volume down + home + power ).
then install from sdcard . thats it .
but that rom has got many problems dude .

@john dinoy: can you please tell me john which one is better GFAN SP8 or cm7.2?? i am currently using GFAN SP8 and want to go to cyanogenmod. i think you have also used GFAN SP8, so can you say which is better rom for our phone between them?
If you use tegrak kernel then u r using sp8 not good..if u are using icarus kernel that wud be good rom wil be snappier but battery hungry..
I suggest try both..

@john: can you please share the link for cm7.2? and is it possible to take backup of everything of my current rom before flashing with the new one? i mean if i don't like the new rom, i would like to restore everything of my previous rom, settings, all apps and every other thing. i think it can be done with titanium backup but i don't know how to. can you please tell me how to do that as well?

@john: the link you provided is a kernel file and its just 4.5 MB and its in .tar so i have to flash it using odin right? i might be wrong but i was thinking it would be in .zip and i have to install it from recovery mode. will i get cm7.2 by just flashing this .tar file?
Yes..b4 you flash the tar file put the zip file to your sdcard..now after flashing the .tar using odin wipe data/cache/dalvic after that install zip from sdcard find the zip file (cm-7.2.0-SMSfixed.zip) then install then go back then install gapps-20110828.signed after you install those zip files wipe data/cache/dalvic then reboot system..
@kumar wait. What do mean kernel? Icarus?.. I'm so sorry I thought you are talking Cm 7 kernel..hahaha..sorry about that.. yeah just flash it using odin you don't need to wipe date just flash it..

@john: the cm7.2 rom is nice but i encountered with an error when i choose a theme from theme chooser. i installed a new theme of ics for cm7 but when i apply that theme from theme chooser an error appears saying "this theme was improperly compiled and cannot be applied. Please report this incident to the theme author" can you please suggest any solution for this?
When you install theme just ignore the error just apply then reboot..it works on me..
Go to gplay then search cm7 themes choose one theme then read the discriptions there's an instruction on how install..
@john: didn't work on me. when i press the apply button then the error message which i mentioned above appears and in the error message there is no button to apply anyway, there is only one button OK. i even reboot but didn't work. i noticed that this error message comes for ics theme only but other theme is applied without any error and i don't need to reboot also. i tried by reflashing but didn't work. any solution??
@john: it finally worked. just after i replied you, i installed another theme for ics and it worked. it was displaying error message other than i mentioned above and there was apply anyway button, when i pressed it, the theme was applied. i think the previous ics themes were not compiled properly so they were giving other errors. cm7.2 rom looks awesome with ics theme. thanx my friend john :)

@praveen just open the multimount SDCARD then check auto-un/mount-sdcard..

@pamfilo did you used gapps? And did you used also illusion camcorder?? Coz i already used that rom then the ringtone calls that would be in chinese only right?

Friends. Did anyone came across. Apn not entering and after full wipe its working.. and why xda doesn't have a thread.for this phone.... you guys have done a get job on provisions and sp3... but I found that some lib files and ints are missing.. hosts. Permission platform. sshd_config. Apns-conf.xml. this files contains big errors and no default settings line that's why system is buggy... if all these files a correctly configured itz cool. Iam new to shw m110s since 9days. So u guys know which kernel is best and latest for Cyanogen.?

@thamizha yeah ringtone calls notworking properly.. that is the only bug left..hehe
John provision 4-7 is not original its a rebuilt of 4-5 but however is Super and perfect jelly Bean.
Iam personaly recommending to use it for shw m110s... now iam building Special build.prop to make it fast and smooth..
Use holo hd jellybean launcher for best performance.
Iam on the way finding ringer system files. If you can help me to find them.

Really amazing ram management, cache improved, waiting time on apps reduced to 1703ms. Ram free on cm10 5~14MB but after ViT update basic free 16MB ~ highest on my device found is 146MB. JB flying on this device.
Full performance used. Without battery drain. Battery is super. I don't know the time limit but I all ways use heav::ily. And if I had full charged at Morning 8.oclock by 11~2pm battery gets low.. but now I use this From Morning 8 to 7pm evening Really amazing....
Feel the same performance on Your JB and device.
Full afx 8.2 is geting some modification on kernel and framework.. ram and battery management. And more. Using 3in1 Rom afx cm prov... ok no need big introduction use ViT and reboot 2 times 1st boot will take 1~2Min and after 1st boot itz ok this is because cache wipe and it have to mount with new file on ViT. @john: first i have to flash .tar file through odin in download mode, right? but i am not able to reboot my m110s in download mode, i pressed home and power button together but nothing happens. actually the display of my phone was damaged and the technician used the display of i9000 in m110s. is this the reason my phone is not going in download mode? can i upgrade my phone from cm 7.2 to cm 10 without going to download mode? please help me....
Yes you can.. just download samsung galaxy s kernel flasher from playstore..just the .tar after flashing remove battery then insert again then voldown+home+power..then flash cm10..
By the way when you entering download mode what logo appear?..

@Erick: erick today i noticed a strange thing in my m110s. i was playing a song and uninstalling an application. in the same time a call came and i was shocked to listen the ringtone !!! after finishing the call i wished to do experiments. 1st i played the song and called on my mobile from landline, the ringtone did not sound. 2nd i uninstall an application without playing song and again called on my mobile from landline but this time also ringtone did not sound. finally i played the song and uninstall an application and in the same time called on my mobile from landline and surprisingly the ringtone sounded !!! i don't know what made that ringtone sound but its for sure that if you play a song, uninstall an application and if call comes in the same time, ringtone works. you can try on your mobile also. i don't know much about the internal process but i guess this could help you to figure out how to make ringtone work in our m110s with jb.

Yes you need odin to flash recovery file.. you can also use samsung galaxy s kernel flasher you get it from playstore..
By the way why you can't perform into a downloadmde?.. what messege appear on your while performing downloadmode?
@john: i flashed my m110s with swiz rom and its pretty good. can i use the updates provided by erick with this rom?and about the download mode, the screen just does not appear anything while i press both home and power button together, no logos no messages. actually the problem started after i changed the display of m110s. anyways thanx to you for the way to flash kernel with application.
Yeah can use VIT from erick..
Did you try to connect your phone to odin into a downloadmode?.. f odin can still connect your phone even there is no yellow triangle appear so means that you can still use odin and flash stock rom and back to normal..
AOKP for shw-m110s is available but not stable..

@john SWIZ ROM is good , nice to see 4.1.2 in m110s , and running smooth , but only when it is fleshly installed . and if u load any apps then it lags .
and i flashed VIT after flashing SWIZ , still the same problem persisting .
i don't know what problem is this but when i try to install facebook app in my m110s from play store, it says your device is not compatible with this version. the same message came when i tried to install viber, soundcloud. but when i install those apps by downloading apk file it gets installed but when try to update them through play store the same not compatible message comes. can anyone tell me what problem is this?? i am using swiz rom jb.
Hai... friends...! Sorry for late. My m110s display was broken. And power button ic also broken. So I cannot move on or test.. yesterday night I bypass pb ic and brought a new display. How ever I can't use power button.
Ok although swiss is a nighty Version. It has a touchwiz launcher that has more than our device lcd density so itz not a rom fault. Use holo or adw for some smooth...

@john: i just flashed with Typhoonoid and its awesome man. its the best rom i have ever used in m110s. its running smooth so far and the battery also does not drain that much. one of the best thing about this rom is you can use a navigation bar like in nexus which allows you to go back, go to home and see recent apps without pressing the phone key. previous roms also had that option but none of them worked. plus you can customize a lot with this rom. but still ringtone is not working. anyways i liked this rom very much and would like to thank john from the bottom of my heart :)

Happy with this rom....really cool....most customisable rom out there for our cell....yea the ringtone doesnt work...but i always keep my cell in silent mode so it doesnt bother me much...AOKP luk..smooth ..navigation bar ...i dnt have any complaints :)

Just i want to get rid of the stock version to improve performance of my phone.
It's annoying at present.
I just provisioned my phone with PROVISION_SHW-M110S_Official_4-7.zip
I installed almost 50 apps, everything is ifne until now except the issue of ringtone.
1 problem is performance is not as I was expecting, Do i need to add some patches or any workarounds for performance tunning.

the real problem that exist is still there!, it's about finding solutions , for ringtones,.. thats the main thing that, the're working on. and yet because of the complexity of it,... is huge, it seems like that it was just a very simple problem to solve, easy to say but it was really freakin us all. Still i was looking forward to see the solution of it. And i would like to say thanks to john and erick for devoting some time to fix and still trying to fix this thing up more and power and brains to u guys ... im just a simple technician that can do hardworks , but but for the soft works ,. you can count on me to leave and fall out of there heheheh.... hope the next post of eric is the best and final solu7tion gor it. thanks guya!

@Erick: im so excited to install the updates but i could not figure out which one is the update. i went to "http://seven.ools.info/" and clicked "[ARTIVEN]" then i clicked "Anycall Galaxy S SHW-M110s Korean" and then clicked "All Roms", i found two roms there. are they the updates 4.2.2 you are talking about? can you please make it clear and do i need to flash the updates like flashing a new rom? can you please reply soon?
ICS or Jelly Bean cannot work on this particular phone due to hardware limitations, and many ROMS like CyanogenMod etc. are designed for the international version, not the korean version, thus you will have some problems.My recommendation to you is to use KIES to go back to the latest Samsung released Gingerbread, root, then use a custom kernel (Tegrak is my personal choice) to get a lagfix. It will hopefully breathe new life into your phone. Hope this helps.
Also note there're many apps for Gingerbread that give you the feel and performance of ICS, such as Gallery ICS, Camera ICS, and ICS Launcher. Aside from being unable to run Chrome, you may not notice any difference.

Erick, i got error while flashing with cm10.1
error says "assert failed" and some kind of OR conditions. at last it says E:Error in /sdcard/m110s-cm10.1.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted.
before flashing i wiped to factory reset and wiped dalvik cache also. can you figure out what error is this?

Find the stock rom and flash it using odin
Theres a CM10 for SHW-m110s (jelly bean) i found and it's totally working. Ringtones, 3G and everything are working. Anyone knows how to post a zip file here? Im gonna send you the CM10 i edited that functions right

The CWM recovery is the problem. Some roms(zip files) can only be installed by its speciefic CWM recovery. like for CM10, CWM recovery must be atleast v.05

I hope this might help. Instead of flashing roms(.tar) on odin, I guess its better to just flash a CWM recovery so you can install roms in zip format on the phone.
the advantage of installing rom in CWM recovery is "you can edit the rom on your PC by removing apk's you don't want and replacing them to apk's you want" by means of WINRAR on your PC. Just be careful from removing some apps on the rom cause the rom may malfunction in such manner if you removed an app that the phone's system needs.
